From the cover: WATCHMAKERS AND CLOCK-MAKERS OF THE WORLD was first published in 1929 as a companion volume to the same authors WATCHES. It quickly established itself as a valuable work of reference and throughout the war-years of scarcity was briskly competed for in the sale rooms and auctions. It formed a volume of the famous Connoisseurs Library, published by Methuen & Co. , Ltd. This enlarged Edition, is issued by N. A. G. Press Ltd, who specialise in books for the jewellery, clock, watch and related trades.

Mr. Baillies researches into the origins of horological mechanisms and the identities of the men who made them, together with his work of classifying and cataloguing the collection of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, have established his renown as an authority on horological origins and historical data. The list of names, dates and localities in this book is obviously the most comprehensive existing; it has been compiled with the ready help of those to whom the author pays tribute, and checked and rcchecked with the utmost care.

The book is a mine of information for both amateurs and traders, containing the names of makers of watches and clocks in centres of the industry in all parts of the world. The lists of abbreviations, alternative spellings, initials and monograms and place names, together with the maps, all assist in the identification of makers and the establishment of age and nationality of antique watches and clocks.
