The Leisure Circle, 1985, Hardback in dust wrapper.
Illustrated by way of: Black & White Photographs; Colour Photographs; Tables;
From the cover: If it hadnt been for a twopenny leaflet, circa 1920, that Jacque Evans and Jill Jago chanced upon at a South London jumble sale, these delightful knitting patterns might never have been resurrected from Patons and Baldwins archives.
Knitting Nostalgia is the result of their careful selection from the very best of designs representing the high spots of fashion from the twenties to the fifties. Completely revised for modern yarns and needles by Patonss head designer, they range from the classic to the outrageous, the simple to the complicated. There are homely or exotic sweaters for both sexes, an old-fashioned tea cosy, real thirties gauntlet gloves, scarves, jaunty hats and turbans, and a number of stunning everyday and evening outfits.
The book is so designed that you can see at a glance how the original garments, once more the height of fashion, retain a unique quality that sets them above contemporary copies. Each pattern runs alongside the original black and white picture that accompanied it when it first appeared, together with the modern version in both black and white and colour, both specially photographed for this book. The final effect is irresistible!
