From the cover: Iord George Sackville was court-martialled for disobedience at the battle of Minden in 1759 and pronounced to be unfit to serve His Majesty in any military capacity whatsoever. Yet fifteen years later, as Lord George Germain, he became Secretary of State for the American Colonies and took charge of the war against American Independence.
