From the cover: One of the most famous of the English county regiments, The Gloucestershire Regiment saw service across the world in its 300-year history. Carrying more battle honours on its Colours than any other Line regiment of the British Army, the Glosters were also unique in the Army for being the only regiment to wear a badge on the back of the cap as well as on the front, in recognition of an incident at the Battle of Alexandria in 1801, when simultaneous attacks from both front and rear were met and repulsed.
