From the cover: The Type VII U-boat, especially in its Type VIIC variant, was the workhorse submarine of the German navy during the Second World War. The Type VIIs were a lineal design descendant of German UB-type coastal U-boats of the First World War, but utilised better steels and welding, and benefited from more advanced structural theory, to obtain a much deeper diving depth.
