At the pinnacle of his chosen profession he was a multimillionaire, one of Frances leading industrialists and the greatest pioneer in the automobile industry. Yet in 1944 he died a traitors death. Accused of collaboration, he was put into prison and died a month later from a cerebral haemorrhage caused by blows inflicted on his vertebrae by the prison guards.
