From the cover: This is the story of Scottish amateur athletics over the past century since the S. A. A. A. was formed early in 1883. Down the years many outstanding Scottish athletic personalities have taken the stage and quickened the interest of the sports-loving public north of the border and even further afield. To the present generation their names and achievements are little known, if indeed they are known at all. In this book their deeds are faithfully described for posterity and the richness and character of the traditions of Scottish amateur athletics are clearly evident. In addition to the event-by-event narrative there is an extensive reference section listing all championship winners in every age category, and including for the first time a full list of all national and native records from their inception. The one hundred and eighty illustrations (including several in full colour) enliven the story arid ensure an attractive book of lasting importance as a superb memorial to one hundred years of Scottish amateur athletics.
