From the cover: Early in 1945 the author was in China, and it was his experiences in Shanghai which suggested the plot of CHINA COAST PIRATES to him.
Set on the remote coastline of Northern China, this story of Big Bill Johnson and his twelve-year-old son Peter is full of excitement and thrills! Big Bill, on a dangerous mission for the Secret Service, decides to make the journey from Hongkong to Shanghai in his yacht Clio. Peter, always ready for adventure, goes with him. On nearing their destination they are attacked and captured by Chinese pirates, who take Peter as a hostage on board their junk, whilst abducting Big Bill to a dungeon in Shanghai. The price of freedom is the surrender of the secret formula which Big Bill is carrying and which Chen Chu Chung, the leader of the pirates desires for his own sinister purposes. How Big Bill escapes and after many dangerous clashes with Chinese hypnotists, bandits and gunmen, makes a desperate bid to rescue Peter with the help of the Royal Navy is the subject of this exciting and original tale, brilliantly illustrated by that distinguished artist LAURENCE SCARFE.
