From the cover: Development and industrialization are organic processes, dependent upon the existence of a wide infrastructure of education, political maturity, government planning and administration, and an elusive quality known, for want of a better description, as national character. Of all the major regions, Africa has been the last to develop the integrated structure which permits sustained and controlled industrial growth. Richard Bailey contends that this very factor, which allows Africa to learn from and avoid the mistakes of others, must work in the end to Africas advantage if the right priorities are set and if imaginative leadership takes precedence over political ideology. After exploring the problems that Africa faces as a whole, Mr. Bailey concentrates on the leading exponents of industrialization Zambia, Ghana, and Nigeria. His message is one of hope: given the right attitudes, success, if not around the corner, is certainly attainable.

Gently bruised at the head of the spine and the top corners of the boards with commensurate wear to the dust wrapper which is a little tanned overall but more heavily to the spine. Edges of the text block lightly tanned. Scattered pencil underlining and marginalia throughout the text.
