Steam: An Evocative Tribute to the Last Days of Steam Trains by Colin Garratt

Steam: An Evocative Tribute to the Last Days of Steam Trains by Colin Garratt soon to be presented for sale on the really rather good BookLovers of Bath web site!

Published: London: Bounty Books, 2006, Hardback in dust wrapper.

Contains: Colour photographs;

From the cover: This book is the finest visual tribute to the steam locomotive ever published. Colin Garratts text and photography reflects his unique odyssey to document, in pictures and words, the Last Steam Locomotives of the World. With hundreds of matchless photographs, this book vividly portrays real working steam eking out its final moments amid the great landscapes of the world.

No preserved or tourist revival trains appear within these pages for they lie outside the scope of Colin Garratts work. The vast majority of locomotives depicted in this book will be, or more likely have been, broken up. This book covers all continents and includes subjects from all the main schools of locomotive design, vividly depicted in every conceivable mood and environment.

The steam locomotive is a sensuous and beautiful creation. It is the one truly living machine and Colin Garratts unparalleled photography captures every nuance of its personality. In the course of his expeditions, he has visited some of the remotest places on earth and some of the adventures described in words in this volume are truly breathtaking. He continues to scour the ends of the earth in search of imperilled survivors.

Very Good in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Gently bruised at the head of the spine and the top corners of the boards with commensurate wear to the dust wrapper. Text complete, clean and tight but the last leaf slightly mis-trimmed at the bottom corner.

Matching Pictorial boards. 288 pages. 11½” x 11½”.

Of course, if you don’t like this one, may I draw your attention to more books hither or maybe further, hand picked, books in my Transport Rail catalogue?
