From the cover: This is a presentation of over 100 original designs based on the hand-coloured patterns popular in Victorian times and inspired by the flowers, fruits and animals found in the traditional English country garden. The patterns range from full-page size to small border motifs and include pansies, strawberries, honey bees, a cat and his catsnip, nasturtiums and poppies, rose geometric and snowflakes. Each pattern has a suggested colourway chart coded for British and American wools and a section on essential stitches will remind both the novice and the advanced needleworker of the basics. The accompanying text includes information on the flowers and gardens of England and poetic sayings which lend themselves to be worked up as embroidered samplers, for which there is an alphabet.
