From the cover: Spectroscopy provides an experimental method for determining the structure and dynamics of atoms and small molecules. It is also widely used as an analytical tool in structural studies of large molecules. This introduction to the subject, suitable for honours students of chemistry and physics, is limited to the principal features of each type of spectroscopy in the hope of giving the student a unified picture of the whole subject. It is assumed that the reader will have an elementary knowledge of quantum theory. The book is sufficiently rigorous to enable the reader to go on to review articles, but the necessary mathematical background is not beyond the average science student.
