From the cover: Lturungen was crippled in childhood. A chance meeting brought Roger Stoakley into close contact with this young man and his peopleone of the last warrior societies of Africa. Sharing their lifestyle he gained an insight into a remarkable way of life. His moving story of its struggle, bravery and holistic joy in a harsh landscape, is also explicit about a small boys circumcision ceremony, and follows new young warriors through the tough Ceremony Of The Arrows. The Samburu people occupy the parched lands of northern Kenya, still the scene of tribal warfare and subject to tight security. Fiercely independent pastoral-ists, they are scornful of Western culture, and have remained relatively unaffected by civilisation. Lturungen came to England for three months while he underwent an operation on his foot. Dressed in warrior clothes, he became a celebrity among local schoolchildren. The author is the former County Librarian of Somerset.
